     NOTES AND NEWS

Week of October 4th,  2009

JOIN US FOR BIBLE CLASS ON 1 & 2 PETER! In Peter’s epistles he instructs Christ’s sheep how to deal with challenges facing the early Christian church—challenges that we also face today. Class is held in the Welcome Center on Sundays at 9:15 a.m. and on Mondays after our worship service. Hope to see you there!

OUR EXTENDED LEARNING DIRECTOR, MISS BELINDA DIERCKS, will be installed next Sunday, October 11, in our 10:30 a.m. service. Home & School will be hosting a reception for Miss Diercks in the Welcome Center following the service.

CHURCH BASEMENT CLEANING ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17 AT 9:00 A.M. We’re hoping to clean out the church basement as well as the ushers’ room and any junk in the back of church. If you can help, that would be great. We could use a pickup truck or two to haul stuff from church to the dumpster. If you have any items in the basement, ushers’ room or back of the church that you don’t want tossed out, please remove them before the 17th. Thank you!

ST. JOHN’S LADIES AID will meet at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, in the Welcome Center. We will be hosting St. Jacobi Ladies’ Aid for lunch and a Special Program “Time Out to Laugh.” Remember to bring your sandwich. All ladies of the congregation are welcome.

THE SUNDAY SCHOOL PARENTS AND CHILDREN thank Pastor Goldschmidt for leading our devotion last Sunday and for telling us about some of the pictures and stained-glass windows. (It’s amazing what you can see when you look at them real close!) Today’s lessons: Mrs. Galian: The wisdom of Solomon (I Kings Chapter 3). Mr. Huth/Mrs. Klabunde: Samson is blinded and imprisoned (Judges 16:4-30).  The Teen Bible Class begins October 11 at 9:15 a.m. in Mr. Meyer’s room.  Seven people have signed up so far. Katie and Cam Ausen are the group leaders.  Hope you’ll join us.

ST. JOHN’S ROOT CREEK OWLS will meet October 14 at 10:00 a.m. in the Welcome Center to play Take-a-way Bingo.  Bring a wrapped gift of $3 value and your lunch.  Coffee and dessert will be provided.  Guest are welcome.

ORDER SCRIP TODAY! Order forms for scrip are available in the brochure holder located in the church entry and in the Welcome Center.  Orders are placed on the first and third Sunday/Monday of each month.  Orders can be picked up on the second and fourth Sunday/Monday of each month. For more info on our Scrip program, please visit our website at www.stjohnsmilw.org/scrip/htm. Please continue to support St. John’s with your Scrip orders. If you have any questions, please call Cindy Elleseg at 541.3205.

SOME CDS AND DVDS OF OUR PAST WORSHIP SERVICES are available in the Welcome Center. They are located in the bottom left drawer of the kiosk. Feel free to help yourselves.

THE OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER GREETERS SCHEDULE is available in the church narthex.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO HELP WITH SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE! We need your help if we’re going to continue serving coffee on Sunday mornings. Two options are available: set up before the early service or clean up after the late service. If you’re an early riser, you can help brew coffee at 7:15 a.m. so that we have coffee ready for those who come to our first service. Clean-up after the second service takes about twenty minutes. Please sign up at the kiosk in the Welcome Center for the dates that work for you. For more information, please contact Sandy Bartsch at 414.545.8651.

WLHS MARCHING BAND INVITATIONAL: The Wisconsin Lutheran High School Viking Band Parents Organization would like to invite you and your family to the 9th annual WLHS Marching Band Invitational TODAY beginning at 2:00 p.m. on the football field next to our school.  This outstanding competition offers music and marching performances from some of the finest high school bands in the southeastern Wisconsin area.  Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.  Please come out to watch the shows, cheer for the WLHS band and enjoy this family-oriented activity. It is a great way to spend a fall afternoon!
